We are about to purchase a machine to do development on. I recently posted
a request for opinions, but got no response. Perhaps I asked too general a
set of questions. Here is another try.
Our application is basically as follows:
Someone dials our machine and uploads a file to us, we use an outgoing line to
download a file from another machine, then we download a response to the
party that called originally, after running the whole mess through various
formulas; we expect five to ten dial-in and two or three dial-out lines and
two to three terminals.
We are able to practically steal a Mini Frame for about $12,00 including
a graphics terminal, an intelligent terminal, whatever UNIX comes with it,
APPGEN, FORTRAN, and a buch of other stuff. Is the MiniFrame a reasonable
candidate for the job? (I've heard that the Mini Frame has a rather bizarre
way of dealing with serial ports, and since that's 90% of our application,
I am particularly interested in any information in this area.)
Thanks for the help!
