How do you write a daemon?

  Well, I simply want to write a program that sits in the
  background, and watches for keystrokes/mouse events.  I have a
  much better idea of how to do this on my Amiga than I do in Unix.
  Do I have to write a daemon?  If so, how does one create a daemon?
