printer setup problem

Bill Rankin was commenting on the problem he ran into on page-breaks, to
which Lenny replied with helpful options. I also ran into the same problem,
and basically solved it by writing a shell-script that allows a user to
make on-the-fly changes in vertical & horizontal layout, font, character
spacing, printer mode, etc. by making selections from a menu. It sets
both the escape-sequences for the printer and (where needed) the values
for the setprint command in UNIX - and it all appears to work fine....
.......except for the *left-margin* adjustment. It seems that no matter
what value I insert into the escape-sequence for setting the left margin,
the printer sets the left margin about *five* inches toward the RIGHT side
of the page. Even if the value is zero! (The printer has a new mother-board,
so it doesn't appear likely that it is a hardware problem on that end).
If I can just get this element resolved, my shell-script will be fully
working as advertised in its 'man' page, and I'd be glad to share it with
anyone who wants to use it. (Should work on any lashup between a 3B1
and anything running in Epson mode, with few changes required even for
non-Panasonic gear). But...... :-(
Is there someone out there who knows about this condition and what to do
about it?
