Once again, it is time to update the list of interesting software that
is available via anonymous UUCP from skeeve. The software is described
below.
(Are people getting tired of this? Or should I continue to do this
when things have changed significantly? Let me know.)
Here are the details:
Phone: +1 404 633-1813 - 1200 baud Unix/PC on-board modem
Login: getnews
Password: getnews
Directory: /usr/spool/uucppublic/dist
The files available are listed by group. Each line is the file name,
the size in bytes, and a brief description of the contents.
The .Z suffix means this stuff is compressed. You can get compress from
THE STORE!, and it comes with the news software.
The phone line listed above is dedicated to skeeve, so feel free to call
at any time of day. It is however, only the 1200 baud modem that comes
with the 3B1. I don't own a trailblazer or even a 2400 baud modem, and
probably never will....

There is a file named INDEX in the directory that will be an up to date
ls -l of what I have.
What has changed since last time:
I have updated my cache of GNU stuff. Everything is as up to date as what's
on prep.ai.mit.edu, the FSF distribution machine. In particular, grep, tar,
diff, and make are the latest versions. Gnu tar has some *nifty* features,
and grep and diff are *F*A*S*T*. The binutils has the assembler and
loader and other stuff. If anyone can get them going on the 3B1, it'd
be a giant step forward.
The version of GNU Awk is the one that I've been working on with David
Trueman; it is supposed to be compatible with the AWK language in the book.
If you find bugs, let me know!
The 'pax' program was written to try and bring some peace to the tar vs.
cpio wars in the Posix world; it supposedly accepts both programs' archive
styles, as well as their command line interfaces. I haven't looked at
it in detail.
The news source is at the latest patchlevel, 17.
That's it for the moment. Share and enjoy!
