Note that in these days of pretty uniform long distance rates it doesn't 
really matter which coast it's on.  In fact, calling inside California
is usually more expensive than calling anywhere else in the country so
being in Los Angeles I would actually prefer to call to New York or
Florida than to San Diego.  An example of the rates I pay:
