===========================
I currently own an AT&T 3B1 and am interested in information
concerning the following:
1. Hardware availability
i) Addtional Hard Drives
- A SCSI controller.
- A Second hard drive controller &/or modifications
necessary to accomodate a second hard drive.
- Availability and suppliers
ii) Memory expansion
- Availability and suppliers
iii) Streaming tape devies
- Greater than the 20 or so megabyte device that
AT&T provides as an option for the 3B1.
- Availability and suppliers
2. Software availability
i) Currently I am running version 3.51a of the operating
system. Is version 3.51b or c available through USENET?
Or must it be purchased through AT&T USA. It seems that
AT&T Canada has no knowlegde of the b or c release.
ii) Is there any software, available through USENET, that
can be used on the 3B1 ( bug fixes, modifications,
games etc.. etc.. etc.. ).
iii) Is there any second party source that is working on
a version of UNIX System V version 4 and/or 5 release
for the 3B1?
3. Personal ports
I currently have the following software rewritten from
various UNIX systems available for public domain
distribution:
- UCB
chfn
chsh
csh
finger
last
leave
lock
lastcomm
more
page
printenv
strings
users
what
whereis
whoami
- System V
at, cron, crontab
login

wall
- Personal
talk
4. 3B1 software problems
I am currently having problems with the
following software:
- sometimes the modem will not answer and
/etc/ph has to be killed and restarted.
- layers will not work with the safari 4
terminal. Is this terminal not supported
by the software? Is a specialized graphics
terminal needed? The error message that is
reported by layers is:
layers - error - Not an XT windowing terminal
The documentation is very vague concerning
operation of the software.
I would appreciate any information available concerning any of the
above problems. Thank-you.
