Indentation (NOT braces)

Is absolutely everybody happy indenting with one tab equivalent to
eight blanks? 
I think that then my lines get too short too fast. I would prefer
indenting four blanks, and using a tab for two indents.
A related question: How do people feel about lines longer than 80 chars?
I don't like them, but in net.sources you can often see very long lines.
