uuxqt hanging problems

We have been experiencing a very frustrating problem lately that so far the 
RTOC has not been able to put a finger on.  Sendmail shells started by uuxqt hang after completing the transaction.  This is an intermediate problem. By that I
mean uuxqt does it's job 7 times out of ten.  But on occasion, the first job
spawned will hang until killed.  

If the shell is killed off only, the newly spawned shell corresponding to 
another transfer will hang immediately.  Below are a couple of examples of
how the problem can really be a pain over a long weekend when knowone is
around to kill them off. 

Also of interest is the amount of CPU activity taken by the tightly hung 
process.  I have examples of hung jobs gobbling up 95% of one of the CPUs. 

We have a 9820 running OSX 4.1.
