This question doesn't really belong here, but since I don't have
access to news I give it a try. So here goes:
We're trying to put up X-windows locally on some sun-stations
(should be a piece of cake, and yes it should have been done years
ago). The problem is that due to lack of ccoperation from the
system-administrator, we're forced to put the distribution on the
account of a user. The distribution was compiled without the shared
library option. The problem is that if the bin and lib directories
are not put in the path, then each program can only be run from the
directory it's compiled in. If the bin and lib directories are puth
in the path, then xinit still has to be started from the directory
that it's compiled in, but afterwards it's ok. This is true for the
user who compiled the package. However if one logs in as another user
then after xinit is started (from the directory it's compiled in).
xterm can only be started from the directory it's compiled in.
Otherwise the machine complains about not finding some libraries.
One gets an error in the style:
ld.so: libXaw.so.4: not found
Could anyone clue me in as to what is going on ?
Thanks,
Stefan Farestam
