Tektroix TeX previewer, shar files, database...

I have three questions, most of them FAQ:
1. Our servers have the TeX/LaTeX packages installed, as well
as the "texsgi" and "textty"(?) previewers. A large number
of users are accessing the servers via vt100 compatible terminals
capable of Tektronix 4014 emulation.
Is there a GOOD TeX previewer for those terminals? i.e. one that
will convert a .dvi file (or a .ps file) into Tektronix 4014 type
graphics.
Any tips welcomed.
2. One of my users has a package to redistribute. He was told
by his colleagues that it must be in "shar" format (that's the
format in which one simply has to say "sh file.shar" to expand
the file into the package itself).
How does one create such a file? Where can I get the utility
allowing us to create "shar" files???
3. Another user requires the installation of a "cheap" database on
his Personal IRIS. In other words, a public domain database.
Where can I get such a beast? I tried Archie with the keyword "database",
but none of the results were database programs!
Again, any tips welcomed.
I will summarize to the net.
Thank you muchly,
