I am trying to determine the best configuration for SUN Yellow Page master
and slave servers in a multi-ethernet environment. I currently have a
2-ethernet LAN as follows:
ethernet ethernet
#1 #2
--- ---
| |
| |
| | |-------|
| |-- SUN "B"| <--YP Slave Server
| | |_______| (O.S. 3.5)
| |---------| |
|-----| SUN "A" |------------|
| |_________| |
| YP Master and Gateway |
(O.S. 4.0.1)
Machine "A" has hostname "A" on ethernet #1 and hostname "A-gate" on
ethernet #2. It is running O.S. 4.0.1 and "B" is running O.S. 3.5.
My question relates to establishment of a third ethernet with another
machine, call it "C" as the gateway between ethernet #2 and the new
ethernet #3. A diagram of the new LAN, without machine "B" for the time
being, is as follows:
ethernet ethernet ethernet
#1 #2 #3
----- ----- -----
| | |
| | |
| |--------| | |--------| |
|-----| SUN "A"|-------|-------| SUN "C"|------|
| |________| | |________| |
| YP Master and | Gateway and ??? |
| Gateway | running |
(O.S. 4.0.1) (Sys4-3.2)
Machine "C" is chosen as the second gateway machine because it can
accomodate a second ethernet controller and is a faster, larger memory
machine, whereas "B" cannot accomodate a second ethernet connection and is
not nearly as much machine as "C".
Assuming that "A" remains the YP Master - Would it be advisable to
either:
(a) Make "C" the new YP Slave instead of the current "B". Is this
advisable considering that "C" is running Sys4-3.2.?? (Whereas "B" is
running O.S. 3.5).
(b) Retain "B" as the YP Slave and not make "C" a YP Slave machine. If
this is true -- where should "B" be located in the network??
(c) Use "B" and/or "C" as YP Slaves in some other configuration??
Any responses are appreciated.
