bar(1) Z option broken?

When I try to extract with

        bar xZf /dev/rfd0

from an archive written by a different UID with 

        bar cZf /dev/rfd0 ...

I get error messages like:

	sh:./foo/mumble can't create

I even tried

	bar xsZf /dev/rfd0

to force it to apply my UID and GID to the extracted files, to no avail.
As an aside, the man file for bar describes options like 'e' that bar
itself doesn't like.

All this is on a SS1+GX, builtin floppy and hard-disk, SunOS 4.1.  Any
clues anyone?
