We are trying to utilize a satellite channel (T1 channel or any slower
speed there of) on a dedicated basis for transmission and reception of
image files. Initially, we would like to do a transmit-recieve loop test
to familiarize with the protocols and the resource access constraints
involved. We want handle the images from a dedicated Sun 3/280 system
sitting on an Ethernet bus with a number of other Sun systems, all in turn
connected to the external world through a TCP/IP router. We want to
consider two options for performing our experiments :
1. Use the TCP/IP router and connect the router to the Satellite modem.
The Image Proceesing Sun Computer will communicate through the router
(contending with all the other traffic on the Ethernet), with the modem.
2. Connect the Image Processing Sun Computer directly to the satellite
modem.
I would like to know if there is anybody out there who has performed
similar experiments in using a satellite channel for dedicated data
communica- tions. What kind of hardware/software are required for options
1 and 2 above? Or can somebody quote a reference where experiments of
this kind have been performed.
Please reply by email to the following address. I will post a summary of
the replies to the net, if appropriate.
