Your procedure sounded correct-- you need to back up important files on your
1.0 aux disk first, but fortunately, Apple's update software doesn't require
any of the old software (first step is to reformat the old hard disk, after
backing up your files).
But wouldn't it be simpler to just swap the physical drive mechanisms?
