RLL controllers with SV/AT 2.3??

I just purchased an Adaptec 2372 floppy/RLL controller,  and I am planning
on upgrading to SV/AT 2.4, *but* I am relatively unhappy with some of the
bug reports I've seen on 2.4 at this time.

A long time ago, I heard a few people talking about RLL controllers on 2.3.
Did someone make the patch to the hd driver to take 26 sectors/track instead
of 17?  Was that all that was necessary?  If so,  does anyone have that
patch already done (I really hate to reinvent wheels)?
