I just got uport's System V/AT R2.4 last Friday - just to make it
clear - I have never run this before (though I manage a few BSD machines
at work, so I'm not totally out of it).
I've run into the same problems in trying to run MG2A (Segmentation fault)
that have been mentioned here (but I cannot go back to 2.2 libcurses).
I'll be trying out Microemacs 3.9 later this week. Just as a note, I have
removed the csr and rep from the term entry for ansi - no luck.
The installation is a real breeze - I've got a clone 12Mhz 286 board with
1 Meg RAM (yeah - I need more, hopefully if/when the prices drop), an
ATI EGA Wonder (yes you do have to disable the extended feature or the
initial boot screen is blank), and a WD1003-RA2 (RLL 2h2f controller,
add this to the list - it works fine) connected to a ST238R (slow) 38
Meg hard disk. All the hardware appears to "like" this version. I did
NOT run into any glitches at all in the install.
Now the bad news - there is mention of HDB uucp in the documentation,
they even say to uncompact the doc's for it that are in /usr/doc -
BUT - there is no /usr/doc area - nor can I see anything like HDB
on the disks, argghh.
Now the big question - are there any copies of emacs (MG, memacs, jove)
sitting around in executable form anywhere I can get them? Also, I
uucp'd the copy of compress.286 from uport but it don't run here - do
I need more memory (that's what compress says).
Well - that's all for now....
