AT&T Sys V/386 3.2 uugetty not dying on schedule ...

I'm having trouble with uugetty competing with uucico and cu. When
uucico runs with uugetty active, uugetty trashes the connection. When
I turn uugetty off things work fine.
I have a kludged uudemon.hour shell script that kills all the uugettys
before starting, so I'm not dying for a solution to this. But I am
curious as to why this is happening.
Also, is it standard behavior for the "poll" mechanism not to set up
to retry when UUCP fails? That's the behavior I'm getting.
Thanks in advance for any insight ...
