BRL had tried the Interlan NI1010A, the Excelan, and the DEUNA controllers.
All worked. The Interlan being the best, in our opinion. The DEUNA has
been rumored to cause problems in the 750's because it draws too much
power from the bus. It seemed to work fine in our 780's. The Excelan
should be used in dumb mode (that is EXOS sucks, use the hosted TCP/IP)
We made use of that board in that way. If you are stuck writing a driver
for the board yourself (i.e., you are not running 4.3), the Interlan
board is the easiest to program of the group.
I'm very skeptical of the 3Com product.
