"lpr" and my stupidity

Alright, I've done a dumb thing. Trying to make space on my hard drive,
I deleted a bunch of mail, network, and uucp-related files (because my
machine is not networked). This caused my two problems, which I hope someone
may be able to help me with:

(1) "lpr", "lp", etc. no longer work.  They seem to think they are working;
i.e., it gives me back a request ID, and the job sits in the spooler, but
nothing comes out of the printer. Any idea which of the files I may have
deleted would cause this problem?

(2) In the process of trying to print, I now have a "pr" process in the
background which the system doesn't seem to believe is really there. "ps"
reports it, and when I try to kill it, nothing happens. "fg" reports that
there is "no such job".

If it helps, I remember deleting the following files:
mail mailx sendmail	who	w	finger
uucp		uu(*) except uudecode/encode
telnet ... there were more, I forget which.

Any help is vastly appreciated...

Joe
