CD-rom in Unix

I haven't seen much in the way of discussion on this.  I haven't seen
anyone mention the Western Digital 7000 FASST (SCSI) controller, which comes
with a driver from Columbia Software.  Part of the driver package is
a CDROM interface which supposedly allows the CDROM to appear as a
file system under Unix.  I don't own a CDROM drive, so I don't know
how well it works.
