Need to read DOS files from tape made by ATT_TAPE

I made a tape of my DOS files on an AT&T PC 6300 using the ATT_TAPE software
(I think that is the name of the software package) Version 1.0.
I now want to read them on my Interactive UNIX system using VPIX.
My tape drive is capable of reading this tape. I know this becase under UNIX
I can do a: `dd if=/dev/tape of=/tmp/foo` and using `fm` I can see valid file
names and data in file /tmp/foo. FYI the tape drive is an Archive 2150S hung
off a Adaptec 1542B SCSI HA.

Since the tape.exe software does not seem to support this driver/tape
configuration I am probably stuck trying to load the tape with `dd` and
unscramble the resulting file. Anybody know the format of the data on the
tape?
Is there any easier way to do this?

Too many rules, and almost as many exceptions to those rules.
