VP/ix & ISC questions

Hello all, I've got some questions that I didn't see in the manuals.. If
these are in the FAQ, please send me a copy! :-)

First, the basics:

386-20 w/8 MB Ram
ATI Basic VGA
Running ISC 386/ix 2.2
Have:  VP/ix 1.2,
       ISC X11, various other stuff

Question 1:  [also the reason for crossposting to comp.unix.msdos]

I have a seemingly "standard" VGA card & monitor.  One thing I particularly
like about VGA is the standard "font" -- ie, a dot [instead of a slash] in
my zeroes, more rounded letters, etc.

However, when I run VP/ix, my text mode is changed into that of an EGA
monitor.  In fact, all of my diagnostics (which usually say that I have
VGA) tell me that I'm using EGA.

[an aside.. To top it all off, I have a "EEPROM configuration" program that
came with the card.  It used to work great -- now, it says "hardware not
supported", because it thinks that I'm using EGA! :-) ]

Here are the relevant lines from my vpix.cnf:

You will notice that the EGAROM line is commented out.
Another interesting thing that happens - if I leave the EGAROM line in, but
comment out VGAROM, my screen goes blank (and doesn't come back) ...

Any suggestions?

Question 2:  [perhaps related]

I use Turbo C++ from time to time.  One of the things that Turbo C++ 
has the ability to do is use the [standard] VGA 50-line mode.  The mode
switch is successful, but the cursor disappears.

Of course, if I boot DOS from a floppy and run Turbo C++ in the 50-line 
mode, it works fine, with a cursor and all.

Again, any suggestions would be welcome.

I decided that I'd like to add a DOS partition to my drive.  Is there a
way to do this without re-installing from scratch?
