Inexpensive Terminals...

What are people using for multi-user systems nowadays? UNIX on a
386 or 486 base is a given for me, but I need to settle on terminals vs
low-end PCs. Curses for UNIX apps is probably sufficient, but what about
DOS apps on these Terminal/PCs?
Is anyone networking PCs to central UNIX systems as dual function
Remote Terminal/local PC? What about the fiber based graphical networks?
Anyone out there using these things? I generally work with large systems
(Vax class and larger) and don't really have the experience in this area
to answer these questions.
Thanks in advance,
