Right - the V7 file system with 1024-byte blocks that System V uses is *so* much faster than the 4.2BSD file system. Yup. Well, maybe I'm naive but I tend to believe Berkeley's figures which show that the V7 file system with 1024-byte blocks that 4.1BSD has is noticeably slower than the 4.2BSD file system.
