We looked at all of the GKS's available and ended up going with PRIOR Data
Sciences. Their GKS originated with the ISO group that first designed GKS.
It is level 2c, which means it can handle input from multiple simultaneous
devices (that's the 'c' part), and it is able to handle display-list
segmentation on any output device (if the device is dumb, it is done in
software) (and that's where the '2' is from). We picked PRIOR over GSS, Visual
and the rest because:
- source is available at a reasonable price (pricing is reasonable
in general), so we can port to anything we want
- it runs on Unix, Xenix and MS-DOS
- it is fast
- both smart and dumb devices are fully supported
- device drivers are free
- they give good support
