Query about using multiple dbm files at once

Obviously (?) this would involve multiplexing some of the variables 
in <dbm.h>, but which ones and how? Also, has anyone else had trouble
with the message "split not paired"? Please *mail* responses to me,
and I will post the replies here or send them to the mod.unix moderator.
