At the local microVAX-II demo/technical presentation someone from MIT
who was a field test site mentioned that when running Macsyma the
microVAX-II ran faster than a VAX-11/780. The numbers that DEC gave for
ULTRIX-32m showed that the microVAX ran faster in general than the 780,
up to about 10% with "average" (whatever that means) workloads.
I think that this was with lots of memory since the i/o is currently
very slow.
When asked whether the microVAX-II was going to limit 750 and 780 sales,
the DEC guy admitted that it would, but that it was better for DEC if
people bought microVAXen rather than the competition.
