system V on a 386....

I need help!!!!
 I have an AT&T 6386 with a segate st296n scsi 84.9 meg drive.
I also have unix sysV v3.1, why will this not work on my configuration.
AT&T says that unix will not work on a scsi drive but a local dealer
says it will,  I dont know that he has done this but he also says that
3b2s are all scsi drive interface??  why does this not work???
any suggestions? will unix v3.2 help any???
