Filenames oddness

With the current thread of filenames, more specifially slashes it them
it occured to me that I might get an answer or two with a current dillema
which has reared it's ugly head...

The Problem: I had/have a file... the file is named : ia-hw3-1.p

Now when I went into vi the first time to actually create the new file
everything was just fine. The file was entered and then I exited vi...
Then I went to compile the little pascal beastie....and the system
choked. What I wound up with was a locked term and a run away process.

I couldn't imagine what the hell could be going wrong so I shut down
the term and logged back into the system... I tried to cat the file
and again the system locked... By this time I figure it's got to be either
something with the filename or I've inadvertintly upset some diety...

So I jam the term and log back on a third time... I now have two run
away processes... I decided to do a man -k for ia...
I didn't find anything that seemed approate...so then I decide to re-
name the file... but instead of typing mv I inadvertaintly type rn
and it spews forth an error message that said something about
permissions and files not found... So I go back and check man -k ia
and notice for the first time init-account which I now believe to be
the one intercepting my filename....

My question is WHY? As far as I can tell this is NOT supposed to be happening
and there is absolutely no "ia" command to be found on my system...
The software package is SunOS 4.0.3 the shell Csh....
